After Mannheim and Milan, Time Warp continued its journey to the Netherlandson 10.12.2011. For the end of the year, the techno event came up trumps witha whole series of firsts. Techno innovator Richie Hawtin surprised with a totallynew show concept, Underworld celebrated their Time Warp debut, and SvenVäth impressed in front of a giant video screen.
More than 15,000 music fanstraveled across Europe to 's-Hertogenbosch.A platform for innovation - Time Warp has not only enjoyed this reputationsince last Saturday. Richie Hawtin alone has celebrated several firsts here, andanother followed at Time Warp Holland. In the midst of the roaring crowd, theCanadian played on an imposing center stage, surrounded by dazzling lightfrom more than 150 moving heads. In a perfectly coordinated choreography ofillumination and sound, Hawtin offered a sensational display and spanned thegap between his DJ sets and Plastikman shows for the first time ever.No less impressive was the Time Warp debut by the British duo Underworld."Born Slippy", "Dark & Long", "Everything, Everything" - within a few minutesthe techno pioneers Rick Smith and Karl Hyde brought the masses fully undertheir influence and had the Brabanthallen quaking with a 90-minute live show.For Underworld, it was the finale of an extensive European tour and a littledress rehearsal for their appearance at the opening ceremony of the OlympicGames in London in 2012.
In the area of lighting and video technology, Time Warp once again displayedits flair for innovation with a combination of high-end technology andcreativity. DJ legend Sven Väth played on the main stage in front of a massive200 square meter video screen while hundreds of fluorescent LED balloonsbathed the stage in a magical light. In conjunction with Väth's hypnoticallydriving set, visuals by the video artists Pfadfinderei offered the audiencebreathtaking scenery.
The latest 3D technology, however, came to bear on Floor Five. The Hungarianvisual artists IVO3D and Bordos projected three-dimensional animation on agigantic cubic sculpture, making for spectacular visual effects. Anotherhighlight came over from Düsseldorf: Desolat boss Loco Dice gave Time Warpfans a special treat, bringing the entire setup from his "Desolat Experience"festival series with him to the Netherlands.
Furthermore, Time Warp Holland presented many new DJs and live acts. Inaddition to techno shooting star Tommy Four Seven, the two Berghainresidents Ben Klock and Marcel Dettmann joined the Time Warp line-up. Onthe Disco Floor, not only were there fantastic house sets to be heard, but alsoTime Warp debuts by Prins Thomas, Todd Terje and the Round Table Knights.
To celebrate the Dutch being hosts of Time Warp, a special Double Dutch floorwas created. With surprising collaborations and proved teamwork this area waspacked all night long. From uplifting technohouse by Remy vs Secret Cinemato oldschool pounding beats played by Darko & Benny Rodrigues with aslamming closure by Miss Djax & Mike Drama, this floor gave the audience agood taste of Dutch quality techno.
With the completion of Time Warp Holland, the organizers at cosmopop GmbHfinished an exciting year in 2011. "It was an exceptional year for Time Warp.We broke new ground in Italy and Time Warp Holland in the Brabanthallenoffered us new opportunities in the fields of lighting, sound and videotechnology. We are all the happier that the final event of the year was aresounding success. After a welldeserved Christmas vacation, Time Warp in Mannheim is already on theprogram for 31 March 2012.
