The first Mayday was attended by 6000 partyfaces. 20 years later on 30th April 2011 more than 25 000 people are expected to participate in Dortmund, Westfalenhalle. More than 50 top performer will arrive for the 20 years' jubilee of this cultural event - included Paul Van Dyk, Jeff Mills, Sven Väth, Sander Van Doorn and Westbam. A fifth room will be also created where DJs from the earlier years will play music such as Marusha, Tanith, Ravers Nature or Hooligan.
'Mayday, Mayday' - sounded from Halle Weissensee's call for help in Berlin on 14th Dec 1991. The fact that the DT64 juvenile radio was almost cancelled affected the young German technogeneration in a bad way as at that time this radi was one of the fewest channel where electronic music was played. When the activists started to organize charityparty they didn't even suspect what will grow from all of this. Today 'Mayday' is history.
In 1993 they already moved to the biggest event hall of Germany. 16 000 raver seized the Westfalenhalle in Dortmund that proves that the house and techno are not only fashion but it became an active part of the youth's culture at that time. Since that 'Mayday' is mentioned as the foremother of all the raves and they organize it as often as they have announced the techno's death.
In 2007 the I-Motion agency became the organizer who is responsable for the Nature One Festival. 'Mayday' has been growing further since that. In 2008 there were even more than 25 000 visitor. The 20-year-jubilee' organizers expect the same number of enquirers at least. In order to host these people as well as for the real rave feeling, a fifth room is arranged.
In the 'Twenty Young Dome's classic room the early stars such as Marusha, Tanith, Miss Djax, Hooligan, Ravers Nature or Ilsa Gold will take us back in time and play the early techno music and himns. The sound, lightening and decoration will be created according to the spirit of the early times.
'By the way, the line up and the technique will be progressive' - explains Oliver Vordemvenne, who is responsible for the DJs' and live acts' bookings. The motto of 1992 is 'Forward ever, backward never" is still the main principle of 'Mayday'. For the half of the other 4 rooms's performers (Arena, Empire, Factory and Mixery-Casino) this will be the first time at the 'Mayday' with some great names such as Paul Van Dyk, Sander van Doorn, Turntablerocker, Jeff Mills, Len Faki, Rush Angerfist, Butch, Outblast vs Korsakoff, Marco V Felix Kröcher, Laserkraft 3D to mention some of the more than 50 musicians.
Sven Väth will celebrate the 30th anniversary of his carrier. 'Mayday is simply the original, the foremother of every rave' - says Sven while Westbam adds - 'There is no other program on the world that connects the early time with all the latest technologies.' He knows well as Maximilian Lenz (Wesbam) is the only DJ who has played at all Maydays. But the 30th April will be a special premier for him as well as this will be the first time when he will participate at two different locations at the same night: in the 'Arena' and in the 'Twenty Young Dome' where he is going to perform an exclusive classic for his audience.
'The Mayday Twenty Young is going to be a very great, special holiday. This will be a night for the history books the same way as the 14th Dec 1991 was' - says Nikolaus Schär, the manager of the Motion.
