Richie Worboys
richie_worboys.jpgFrom his roots in Chelmsford, United Kingdom, Richard Worboys’ fascination with DJ and disco began at the ripe old age of 4 when he attended a wedding reception and witnessed the magic that music and lights can work on a crowd.
By age 15, Richard owned his own mobile disco rig. After years of honing his craft, his big break came when he began full-time work with Rank Entertainment in 1993; success came soon thereafter.

In 1995, he won the UK Light Jockey contest at the London Hippodrome. Two years later, in 1997, he won the UK Light Jockey contest at the Ministry of Sound as well as the World Light Jockey contest at the London Hippodrome. That same year, Richard began to design and program the lighting for new nightclubs within the company, most of them 2000+ capacity venues with full light, laser and video technologies.
3 years later, Richard noticed a turn in music and lifestyle trends, along with corporations buying each other out, saturating each town with their own venues. When he received a call from John Lyons, looking for a new Lighting Director for Avalon – Boston, a brief visit to Boston later, he immediately saw an opportunity to further his career.
Richard packed his bags and made his way across the pond to the US in June 2000 to join the Avalon family. While working at Avalon Boston, he found himself involved in many aspects of the club, including managing the audio systems, assisting with production, and set design for the hugely successful “Avaland” night.

Sharing similar interests with John, sourcing new technologies to push the boundaries of the Audio/visual experience, the relationship between them grew stronger resulting in working together on projects outside of Avalon including clubs in Las Vegas and Avalon Hollywood.
Richard made a permanent move to Los Angeles in 2004 to work at Avalon and further expanded his role by joining John Lyons Systems as lighting designer. He has lent his talents to several high profile venues including LA hotspot Area as well as several Las Vegas properties including Light at the Bellagio, JET Nightclub, Body English at the Hard Rock Hotel and Blush at the Wynn.

The Present: Now Vice president of “John Lyons systems” and still creating the visual experiences every Saturday night at Avalon, Richard spends his few spare moments on research and development for new lighting and video control, pursuing total integration between DJ, LJ and VJ. With Avalon being the perfect testing ground, he’s in his element experimenting with the latest products, with the goal to build unique and exciting visual experiences. But still not forgetting his original passion, working on music production, he’s forever on a quest to find the perfect mix!
